Two of ours went into the Hollow a week past, Brenn and young Aldo, following a spider-track the width of a cart. Brenn wrote nothing in the Book of Last Tracks before he went, which means he meant to come back. I mean to have him back, or what is left. The Hollow lies west. At its bottom is the mother of them all. Kill her and the rest will scatter.

Burn the webs where you can. Do not stand still in the dark. A spider is patient; be less patient. Take it in order: find the Hollow's mouth to the west, kill the giant spider in the woods south-east (marked on your map, a long walk from the Hollow), then go down to the chest at the bottom, where the Broodmother guards it. She is a boss: bring level 16.

Brenn's knife. And Aldo's horn. Well. I will write their names in the Book myself. You did what we could not. The Greywold keep their debts, stranger; this one will be long remembered. And take this stone. Brenn's fox, a kit he raised from the den, sat at the Hollow's mouth seven days waiting for him; on the seventh she lay down and did not rise. Her spirit would not go on alone, so I put it in the stone, the old Greywold way. She has chosen you. Call her and she will come, swifter than she ever ran, and fiercer. She will still bring you every coin she sees; Brenn never had to stoop for one in his life.
